What is Olaplex?

OLAPLEX is born from a lifelong relationship with the beauty industry. Dean Christal, CEO and founder of OLAPLEX, grew up in a family that deeply understood the needs of hardworking hairdressers. His mother was a professional hairdresser who ran a salon in their home, while his father was a beauty products distributor with 26 stores. This experience laid the foundation for the one ingredient that continues to change what is possible with hair.

While Dean and his wife Darcy were conducting stem cell research for a family member, Dean met Dr Craig Hawker from the University of California Santa Barbara. During their meeting, Dr Hawker curiously asked Dean what the ‘Holy Grail’ of hair was. After a moment’s thought, he told Dr. Hawker, “We could change the world by giving women with wonderful, undamaged hair more confidence.” Intrigued, Dr Hawker introduced Dean to Dr Eric Pressly. Their initial meetings took place in Pressly’s garage in Santa Barbara. That’s where OLAPLEX was born… in a garage full of surfboards, garden tools and lab equipment, created by two scientists who had never worked in the hair industry.

OLAPLEX was launched in July 2014 and changed the hair industry forever. OLAPLEX’s bond-multiplying technology brought a new category to hair care, enabling bolder and more sophisticated chemical procedures to be carried out successfully. OLAPLEX’s promise was to ensure the integrity of the hair during all chemical procedures. It gave hairdressers the ability to treat damaged hair while pushing the boundaries of their chemical procedures, and to achieve results that could not be achieved without OLAPLEX.
